The City of Fall River Thursday celebrated the accomplishments of nine high school seniors nominated to be this year’s Fall River Youth of the Year.

Before the announcement of the winners, Andrew Rebello, Assistant Superintendent at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School and Matthew Desmarais, principal of BMC Durfee High School recognized the achievements of all the nominees and encouraged them to continue to strive for greatness.

Emma McDonnell of Durfee High School was named Youth of the Year. Emma is a member of the National Honor Society, the History Abroad Club, and was a member of the soccer team for four years. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina where she will study Marketing.

Along with the recognition Emma will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Durfee senior Eshal Zaraha finished second. She receives a $500 scholarship and hopes to attend Georgetown University and major in Finance and International Relations.

Maggie O’Connell – B.M.C. Durfee High School
Rachel Lemma – B.M.C. Durfee High School
