The Fall River Fire Department showed off its newest vehicle yesterday, thanks in part to a donation of over $100,000.
Following the Gabriel House assisted living fire last July that claimed ten lives, the United Way of Greater Fall River partnered with the Ida S. Charlton Charity Fund to donate $112,500 for the purchase of a used support vehicle from a New Hampshire community that will serve as an equipment storage unit and a hub for refilling air cannisters at fire scenes.
Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon says the support for firefighters at the scene of a major fire like the one at Gabriel House from this new vehicle could save lives.
The United Way also reported that just under $150,000 was raised to support Gabriel House survivors. The money was distributed through community partners providing services to displaced residents.
