Former Fall River mayor and Bristol County district attorney Sam Sutter has informally announced he plans to run this year to unseat incumbent mayor Paul Coogan.

Sutter was elected mayor in December 2014 following the successful recall of former mayor Will Flanagan. He was defeated less than a year later in November of 2015 by former mayor Jasiel Correia.

He says he overcame many early obstacles during his short time in office and he wants a second chance.

Sutter says he regrets the implementation of a $10 per month trash fee, the issue he says cost him re-election. The money was used to pay for the disposal of solid waste while freeing up funds for police and fire department staffing.

In his run for another term, Sutter says he will remind voters of the accomplishments he made during his year in office.

Sutter says serving as district attorney and mayor comes with different expectations from voters, and he feels he can do a better job connecting with city residents.

Sutter says he plans to make a more formal announcement of his campaign soon and will begin mapping out his platform. He is looking forward to holding multiple debates with incumbent Mayor Paul Coogan.

Sutter says if elected he plans to impose no new taxes and work at lowering the tax burden on city residents.
