Opportunities for kids to take part in music and dance programs is now more attainable thanks to Starmaker & Co., an initiative developed by The Church of the Holy Spirit on Rock Street.
Mr. Lacey spent 40 years teaching music in New Bedford and has served as musical director at the church for 25 years. The church gave him the latitude to create a music and dance program for children that is free for families.
Starmaker & Co. has two seasonal performances, one in the fall and another in the spring. Parent Neil Charette says the program introduces students to much more than musical arts.
The current troupe of students at Starmaker & Co. is small, but they are all excited about being able to express themselves through music and dance.
Mr. Lacey says the experience he hopes to create for Fall River area kids through Starmaker & Co. harkens back to a time when such opportunities were commonplace in cities and towns across the United States.
