Despite today’s sweeping rain, the 50th anniversary of the USS Massachusetts continues at Fall River Battleship Cove. As part of the celebratory events, a Rosie the Riveter look-a-like contest took place this afternoon on the PT Boat docked at the pier.

A photograph of a woman wearing a red scarf with white polka dots wrapped around her head, and sporting a plain blue dress became the icon of women in power during World Word ll. While the men went off to war, the so called Rosie the Riveters stayed behind to take care of the home front in America. The Rosie the Riveter images were splashed across posters and billboards all over America during war time.

Seventy years after World War II ended, the iconic photograph lives on in the minds of people everywhere.
