A Bristol Community College student in the Paralegal Studies Program likes the idea of not paying sales tax in local stores this upcoming weekend, but unfortunately will not be participating herself in this weekend’s No Tax Holiday.

Mary Day says she has taken advantage of no sales tax weekends as much as possible in the past, however.

“I probably bought items during the last four times the Bay State ran the program,” Ms. Day says. “Usually, it was because my family made a large purchase, and it was good to save the money.”

For example, last year Ms. Day and her husband bought furniture for their home in Middleboro and paid no sales tax.

“This year there are no big purchase items for us to make,” Ms. Day explains, “So I don’t think I will be buying anything this weekend.

Massachusetts residents will pay no sales tax on certain items Saturday, August 15th, and Sunday August 16th under the newly signed No Tax Holiday legislation instituted by Governor Charlie Baker.
