The City of Fall River today paid tribute to veterans of the Gulf War and Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
The ceremony was held at Turner Park on Danforth Street and commemorated the lives of Fireman Charles A. Tavares, killed in Vietnam in 1969 and SFC Russel G. Smith, killed in the Gulf War.
Keynote speaker MSgt. Theodore Banks, Jr. served in both Vietnam and the Gulf War. He fondly remembers his time serving his country and the importance of honoring those who never came home.
