Devising strategies to promote the ideals of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) was the focus of Bristol Community College’s 24th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast and Day of Service held Monday morning at the college’s Fall River campus.
The event recognized students who submitted essays related to the impact of Dr. King’s teachings on improving social justice. Modupeola Faith Ojurl was the first-place winner of the essay contest. She says progress has been made in fighting injustice among all diverse groups, but there is still a struggle to achieve true equality.
The keynote address was delivered by Yolanda L. Dennis, the inaugural Director of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Family Engagement at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School (GNBRVTHS). She says one way to combat racism is to identify our prejudices.
