The Fall River Police Department is working in conjunction with Blessed Trinity Church and local grocers to collect unwanted guns in exchange for store gift cards.
Guns for Groceries will take place this Saturday from 9:30am to 12:30pm at Blessed Trinity Church, 1340 Plymouth Avenue.
The creation of the Guns for Groceries buyback program was proposed by the late Rev. Robert Lawrence, former pastor at the First Congregational Church in Fall River and long-time community benefactor.
Lt. Pacheco says free gun safety locks will be made available to anyone who requests one. He says no personal information will be collected from those turning in guns and all weapons will be disposed of properly.
