Fall River Public Schools Superintendent Maria Pontes last night proposed a school budget for the new year that begins on July 1 totaling $242.8 million.
The spending plan is nearly $16.3 million (7.19% higher than this year’s budget. $2.2 million dollars of that increase is due be paid out of the City of Fall River’s FY 2025 operating budget.
During a presentation before the school committee, Ms. Pontes said the proposed budget builds upon the priorities set by the district to serve all students.
The budget reflects an increase in enrollment of nearly 200 students and includes the net hiring of 42 new positions from FY 2024.
The school committee will be holding meetings with department heads on the budget in the coming weeks with adoption slated for April.
