A Fall River resident has been chosen as the recipient of a $20 thousand dollar college scholarship award.

Yara Almeida, a graduate of Durfee High School, was awarded a $20 thousand dollar scholarship to be used towards college tuition. Yara is a member of the National Honor Society, and graduated in the top 10 percentile of her class. She is a member of the Freedom Writer’s Club, Debate Team, and the Green Team. An aspiring journalist, she’ll be attending Cornell University in the fall, majoring in communications.

Five additional Fall River students also received $1,000 dollars each in award monies as part of the Dunkin’ Donuts scholarship program, now entering it’s 20th year.

Jennie Arruda, Benjamin Kaliff, Anthony Mahoney-Pacheco, and Brianna Raposa were the lucky recipients.

“We are so proud to have reached this amazing milestone with the Dunkin’ Donuts Scholarship,” said Bob Mongeon, of Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee. “Since the start of this program, we have had the opportunity to make achieving a college education just a little more attainable for thousands of local students and their families, and we look forward to continuing that mission for years to come.”

All the scholarship money awarded will be used towards college tuition.
