Here’s what’s happening at the Fall River Public Library during school vacation week, April 13-20, 2024. Our Children’s Department will celebrate “Under the Sea Week” with ocean-themed crafts and activities. Join us for these fun, free programs for kids, teens, and adults.
Saturday, April 13: Virtual Reality & Open Gaming with One Up Games, 11 am. Kids and families, teens and tweens are invited to explore the world of VR gaming with One Up Games! Join us in the library Meeting Room from 11 am to 1 pm.
Saturday, April 13: Patriots’ Day at the Lafayette-Durfee House, 11 am. David Mello, our head of Children’s Services, will lead a celebration of Patriots’ Day featuring a reading of “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere,” a minuteman craft, and a tour of this historic Colonial house! This event will take place at the Lafayette-Durfee House, 94 Cherry Street, NOT at the library. Parents and kids are invited to join us there!
Monday, April 15: The library is CLOSED for Patriots’ Day.
All Week: FIND THE FISH scavenger hunt. Pick up an entry form in the Children’s Room. Children are invited to find three “lost” fish in the library and enter a raffle to win an Under the Sea Gift Basket.
Tuesday, April 16: Sensory Ocean Bottle Workshop, 1 pm. Hold the ocean in your hands with these fun to make sensory bottles filled with an ‘ocean’ of shells and sea creatures. We will include all the supplies needed to create this engaging craft. Register for this event beginning Tuesday, April 9: call the Children’s Room at 508-324-2700, ext. 4.
Tuesday, April 16: Middle Grade Book Club, 5 pm. For kids ages 8-12. This month, our book will be Neil Gaiman’s creepy classic, The Graveyard Book. Copies of the book will be provided.
Wednesday, April 17: Meet SpongeBob and Patrick, 11 am. Direct from their home in Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star will be visiting the library for a very special meet and greet with their fans!
Wednesday, April 17: Books & Tea Club, 2 pm. This one is for the grownups. Enjoy a cup of tea and light refreshments while sharing book recommendations with fellow readers. There is no assigned book; instead, each member talks about books they’ve enjoyed.
Thursday, April 18: Drums Alive!, 11 am. Join us for this thrilling rhythm and movement program designed to get kids drumming up a storm and hopping to the beat! Recommended for ages 4 and up.
Thursday, April 18: Spotted Fish Craft, 1 pm. Let’s go fishing! Grab a fishing pole and catch a spotted fish! Just take a BINGO dauber and colored fish of your choice and cover him with spots from nose to tail. Join us for a fun and easy activity for ages 3 and up!
Thursday, April 18: Sci-fi & Fantasy Book Club, 6 pm. Science fiction and fantasy lovers are invited to join us for our monthly book discussion group! We meet on the third Thursday of each month to talk about a different sci-fi or fantasy book. April’s selection is Red Sister by Mark Lawrence.
Friday, April 19: MAD SCIENCE: Life in the Sea, 11 am. Mad Science’s Life in the Sea workshop plunges children into the depths of ocean life using a variety of engaging hands-on activities. This program is recommended for grades K-12. Registration is required and begins on Friday, April 12. Call the Children’s Room at 508-324-2700, ext. 4.
Saturday, April 20: Children’s Poetry Day, 11 am. April is National Poetry Month, and we are celebrating poems and stories from some of children’s literature’s best loved poets, including Shel Silverstein, Jack Prelutsky, Emily Dickinson, and Dr. Seuss! Kids can also enjoy an easy-to-make craft and a guest appearance by the Cat in the Hat!
Saturday, April 20: Teen Anime Club, 1 pm. If you’re a teen age 12-18 who loves anime and manga, join our monthly anime club and meet up with other fans to talk about your favorite series, both new and old, and enjoy some tasty Japanese snacks while watching anime on the big screen.
