Fall River Mayor Sam Sutter rounded up some 60 volunteers to clean the streets and open spaces along Fall River’s waterfront today in order to prepare the area for Battleship Cove’s week long 50th anniversary celebration.
Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator Nick Camara was part of that venture, helping to pick up litter, and weeds along streets and sidewalks, as well as lay down fresh mulch for a clean city look.
“I was very pleased with the results of our cleanup this morning. Unlike the city-wide cleanup we held in June, this was a smaller scale but more concentrated effort to make our waterfront spotless, and I believe we accomplished that. Tens of thousands of visitors will be coming to Fall River in the coming weeks, many for the first time, and we want to make sure we leave a lasting, positive impression on them,” Mayor Sutter said.
Clean up concentration:
Central St onto Water St, past the Gates to the City on Ponta Delgada Blvd, down Ferry St onto Almond St, and up Columbia Street as well as Turner Park to the north of Battleship Cove.
“The Battleship’s 50th anniversary, and all of the other festivities planned for the coming weeks, promises to be an exciting time here in the city,” Sutter said. “My administration wants to do everything it can to make sure the events are great successes, and a large part of that is making sure our streets are in top shape and ready for the influx of visitors.”
