Volunteers are needed to mark about eleven thousand veteran grave sites with flags across the City of Fall River ahead of the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
The city’s graves and flags officer Victor Farias is leading the effort. He says the focus will be on three (3) cemeteries, but include multiple others. Farias also travels to monuments around the city that honor veterans’ service to ensure they are properly prepared for Memorial Day and decorated with wreaths.
Farias, who has served in the National Guard, has spearheaded the process for four years, and says the number of veterans’ graves marked rises every year. Last year around ten thousand five hundred flags were placed on graves throughout the city.
