The Fall River Arts and Culture Coalition (FRACC) and Viva Fall River are organizing a community project to paint large murals on two city buildings next month.
The organizations are working with Beyond Walls, a Lynn-based group that introduces public art and curates into the fabric of communities, primarily through murals. Fall River has been selected as one of five Massachusetts communities to produce murals this year. FRACC Executive Director Ashley Occhino says the city’s project, called Viva Murals, will be painted on two recognizable and visible locations.
A call to artists to participate was launched earlier this year with renowned muralists Ad Fuel and Kevin Ledo selected. Occhino says both have ties to the region.
The murals will be painted over a two-week period at the end of next month, with local events held tied to celebrating the murals and watching them come to life.
FRACC is currently seeking donations to help pay for the project. The goal is to raise $30,000 to trigger a matching state grant.
During the painting of the murals, students at the Doran School will take part in a virtual art cultural exchange with students in Columbia, with a replica mural being painted in that country.
