The Preservation Society of Fall River recently purchased its third property for renovation, the William Valentine Carriage House at 166 Purchase Street.

Preservation Society President Jim Soule says the purchase of the carriage house, in conjunction with the purchase and renovation of the Dr. Isaac Fiske House on Pine Street and the John Read House on June Street is indicative of the organization’s commitment to highlighting and preserving historic Fall River buildings.

The Preservation Society also serves as a watchdog when it comes to new development in Fall River and its potential impact on historical districts within the city. Just last week the Preservation Society objected to plans before the zoning board of appeals to build a 346-unit, 14-story housing project on Weaver Street.

Soule says the Preservation Society has a short list of historic properties in the city it may be interested in purchasing if and when they go on the market.
