The city election is a little over four weeks away and former Fall River Mayor John Mitchell has some thoughts on what voters might expect between now and election day.
Reacting to last week’s preliminary election where Mayor Paul Coogan and City Council President Cliff Ponte advanced to the November election, Mayor Mitchell said he was not surprised by the low voter turnout or Mayor Coogan’s margin of victory.
Mayor Mitchell said with the anticipation of a higher voter turnout in November, Councilor Ponte should continue to be hopeful that there are still votes to be had.
With the city council race now getting more attention, Mayor Mitchell feels the eight incumbents in the race may have an advantage…
For the school committee, Mayor Mitchell believes the three incumbents in the race have a good chance at re-election with only ten candidates on the ballot.
With no preliminary election for city council or school committee and only a five-week window left to garner support, Mayor Mitchell feels those candidates with a strong organization have a better chance of succeeding.
