The Election 2022 voting season has begun for many Fall River residents as approximately 7,000 mail ballots were shipped last week.
Fall River is in a unique situation this year as two elections are being held simultaneously; the State Election and a Special City Election asking voters whether the city should become a member of the MBTA as part of SouthCoast Rail.
Fall River Election Commission Chair Ryan Lyons says separate ballots are quired for each election. Those requesting ballots by mail will receive two mailings and need to be attentive as to the procedure to vote and return the ballots.
Voters can still request a mail or absentee ballot with the deadline to apply of November 1. Mr. Lyons says all mail ballots must be in the possession of the Elections office by 8pm on November 8.
Early in-person voting in Fall River begins this weekend. Mr. Lyons says he expects a better early voting turnout compared to the September 6th State Primary.
Because there are two separate elections being held on the same day, those casting ballots in person will be required to check in twice, once for each election. On Election Day, November 8 polls will open across 27 precincts in Fall River at 7 am and close at 8 pm.
