Fall begins this week and as the weather cools, it’s time to prepare for any upcoming seasonal illnesses, including COVID and the flu.
Dr. Eric Vaught, chief medical officer at the HealthFiirst Family Care Center in Fall River, says now that we have come to a point where COVID is more preventable with updated vaccine boosters, tweaks to previous vaccines have been the focus.
Those 6 months of age or older are eligible to receive the COVID booster. Dr. Vaught says the holiday season is the prime time to be on the lookout for a spike in COVID cases.
There is also a new vaccine available for the seasonal flu. Like COVID, those 6 months of age and older can safely receive the updated vaccine.
Dr. Vaught says patients can safely receive both the COVID and flu vaccine boosters during the same appointment.
There is also another vaccine available this year…one to treat RSV.
Even though we are further removed from severe COVID infections, Dr. Vaught still recommends we stay vigilant to minimize getting infected with any seasonal illness.
