Over the last 14 days, the number of positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents has risen to a point that the City of Fall River is now considered a location for high risk of infection by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Under metrics unveiled by the state this week, any community with an average positive daily case rate of 8 or more over the last two weeks is considered to be extremely infectious. Fall River’s rate is 8.3 daily cases.
Mayor Paul Coogan says the numbers are alarming but warrant further investigation.
The mayor says there will be discussions as to how the uptick in numbers may impact the plan, approved this week by the school committee, to re-open schools.
Fall River is one of 11 communities across the state that have been identified as having these high levels of COVID-19 positive cases.
