Voters in Fall River and across the Commonwealth will now permanently benefit from COVID-era rules for voting that allowed voters to vote early and by mail.
The legislature this spring passed the VOTES Act, which allows voters in state and presidential elections a wider opportunity to vote. The rules do not apply to local municipal elections.
In the coming weeks, all eligible voters in Massachusetts will receive an application that will allow them to receive a ballot by mail for both the September 6th Primary and November 8th State Election. The application for the “no-excuse” mall ballot must be returned by August 29. Ballots must be received at local election offices by 8 pm on election day.
The law also calls for expanded early voting; one week prior to the State Primary and two weeks prior to the State Election. In 2020 early voting in Fall River was held within the atrium at Government Center.
Fall River State Representative Carole Fiola says the new law will allow any eligible expanded opportunities to cast a ballot.
