The city’s nine-member special committee to review the Fall River city charter held its first meeting Monday afternoon.
The latest iteration of the charter was approved by voters in 2017 and mandates that a special committee be appointed to review the document five years after passage. Committee chair attorney Rene Brown says the group will examine how the provisions of the charter have been undertaken to date with a report on recommended changes to be drafted and submitted to the city clerk by June 30.
Attorney Brown says she’s excited about working with the other members of the committee. Meetings are scheduled monthly through June and will provide ample time for residents to provide their input on charter changes.
Five members of the special committee were appointed by Mayor Paul Coogan and four members were appointed by the city council.
