The promise to return rail service to Fall River is inching closer to reality.
Work at what will be the Fall River train depot off Davol Street is nearing completion. SouthCoast Rail project manager Jean Fox says phase one of the project, which will connect Fall River and New Bedford to Boston through Middleboro, remains on time and on budget.
She says crews continue to work around the clock to get the project completed with minimal disruption to the surrounding neighborhoods.
SouthCoast Rail Production Manager Scott Kelley says the Fall River depot station will contain some familiar elements with construction wrapped up later this fall.
Fox says all indications still point to the first trains accepting passengers next year.
