Southcoast Health, which operates Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, is handling the surge in COVID-19 infections.
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Renee Clark, who serves as head of the hospital group’s COVID command center, says having dealt with the pandemic since last spring has prepared it for the influx of new COVID cases. She says even though COVID hospitalizations are up, local hospitals continue to have the capacity to serve all patients.
Ms. Clark says as COVID cases are on the rise due to community spread, concerns have arisen as to the health and safety of the dedicated frontline clinical workers at each Southcoast medical facility. The good news, Ms. Clark says, is many of those healthcare professionals have received the COVID-19 vaccine.
