The State Senate will soon be voting on a proposed $49.68 billion budget for the fiscal year that begins July first. How will Fall River fare if the budget is passed?
Fall River Senator Michael Rodrigues serves as the chair of the Committee on Ways and Means which develops the senate’s budget plan. He says the spending bill will pay dividends to city schools and public safety officers.
Senator Rodrigues says other budget priorities will also benefit Fall River.
Not in the budget proposal are Governor Charlie Baker’s proposed tax cuts. Senator Rodrigues says tax relief is still on the table.
Through the pandemic, the Commonwealth has fared well financially, with revenues far exceeding expectations. Senator Rodrigues says even though the state is projecting a surplus, there is a process as to how that extra money can be spent.
The Senate is expected to debate its budget over the next few weeks then it will be reconciled with the House version before being sent to Governor Baker for approval or veto.
