Since the onset of the pandemic, more city restaurants opted to offer outdoor dining options. The City of Fall River has simplified the process to apply for outdoor dining and now is offering grant money to help restaurants start or expand their outdoor dining operations.
The money is from a state grant and is being administered by the Transformative Development Initiative (TDI) and Viva Fall River. Viva Fall River director Patti Rego says the new outdoor dining guidelines and grants give restaurants more flexibility.
Rego says the grants will be issued in amounts up to $2000 and applications will be accepted until the money in the program runs out.
Mayor Paul Coogan says expanding outdoor dining can be an economic development booster for the city.
