Fall River State Representative Carole Fiola is the new chair of the legislature’s committee dealing with municipalities and regional government.
Previously Representative Fiola was the chair of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development. She says her new assignment will focus on addressing legislation that comes directly from Baystate communities.
Fall River currently has a special committee meeting to propose potential changes to its city charter. If it feels the need to move forward on making changes, those will come before Representative Fiola’s committee.
Local housing regulations such as rent control would also come before Representative Fiola’s committee. She says the housing crisis is one of the legislature’s top priorities this session.
Along with her new committee assignments, Representative Fiola is also a member of a number of legislative caucuses that focus on specific issues.
As part of the Women’s Caucus Representative Fiola is proud to have sponsored a bill promoting postpartum depression screening she hopes will pass this session.
And continuing this session are legislative committee hearings held simultaneously in person and virtually.
