Laura Jean Washington has been appointed to fill the position on the Fall River City Council left vacant by the resignation earlier this week of Councilor Trott Lee.
Councilor Washington, who finished 11th in last year’s city election, was selected to serve after 10th place finisher, former Councilor Christopher Peckham, declined the appointment as outlined in the city charter.
Councilor Washington comes to the chamber at a time when the city council is beginning deliberations on the FY 20232 city budget.
Councilor Washington is looking forward to bringing her professional experience and love for the city into her new role on the council.
As she begins her term, Councilor Washington will chair the council’s Health and Environmental Affairs Committee while also serving on the Public Safety, Ordinances and Legislation, and Economic Development and Tourism committees.
