As Fall River continues to get positive news on its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Paul Coogan is preparing to fully re-open Government Center and planning on how to wisely spend money from the latest federal COVID relief bill.
COVID-19 infections across the city continue to trend lower, although Fall River still finds itself as one of the high-risk communities for infection in the Commonwealth. Mayor Coogan says despite that designation, it’s time to make plans for what lies ahead.
He says details are being worked out to fully re-open Government Center as soon as possible.
Fall River is in line to receive upwards of $73 million dollars for municipal purposes and $41 million for the school department as part of the latest COVID-19 relief bill passed by Congress. Mayor Coogan says it’s too soon to say how the city will spend the money, but the goal is to do so strategically.
The mayor says he will seek input from many local stakeholders and residents on how to best spend the federal money once the Treasury Department determines any restrictions on its use.
