Local Catholics will begin the celebration of Lent with Ash Wednesday this week.
Father Thomas Washburn, rector at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fall River says the holy season is a time for reflection.
Father Washburn says ashes will be distributed differently this year, sprinkled over one’s head instead of applied to the forehead. This year’s Lenten season, while conforming to COVID restrictions, does allow for some consistency compared to last year.
Father Washburn goes on to say that even though the number of those attending church has been on the decline, Lent provides an opportunity for those who have strayed to restore their faith.
