Fall River City Council President Pam Laliberte-Lebeau will be arraigned on Tuesday on charges she sent harassing phone and text messages to the wife of a former lover and intimidating witnesses in the case.
The charges were filed by Westport Police who investigated a complaint by a couple who had been receiving harassing and annoying calls and text messages. Police were able to trace the messages to Ms. Laliberte-Lebeau’s phone.
Attorney Steve Sabra of Sabra Law says the harassment charges are misdemeanors while the witness intimidation charges are felonies.
Attorney Sabra says only Ms. Laliberte-Lebeau can decide whether her alleged actions merit her stepping down as city council president or resigning from the council itself.
The Fall River city charter only specifies that an elected official would be automatically removed from office if he or she is convicted of a felony. That is not the case thus far for Ms. Laliberte-Lebeau.
