UPDATE: The parade has been postponed one week due to the forecast of inclement weather. The parade will take place Saturday, December 12, beginning at 3pm.
In a year unlike any other due to COVID-19, Fall River’s annual holiday parade will have a different look, with a citywide reach.
This year’s event, titled Santa’s Jolly Ride, will follow the lead of the city’s Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day parades, a motorcade procession throughout the city. As in the past, the Christmas parade is being organized by Greater Fall River RE-CREATION in conjunction with the mayor’s office. Annmarie Holly from RE-CREATION says the parade will be smaller compared to years past but will still include a wide variety of entertainment from around the region.
The motorcade will kick-off at 3 pm next Saturday, December 12 from Government Center and will take the following14-mile route across the city:
- East on Sullivan Drive and proceed east on Pleasant Street;
- Right onto Eastern Avenue. Proceed onto Brayton Avenue;
- Left onto Stafford Road;
- Right onto Tucker Street;
- Right onto Rhode Island Avenue;
- Left onto Globe Street;
- Left onto South Main Street:
- At Shove Street, the vehicles will make a U-turn to go back onto South Main Street headed north to downtown;
- Right on Sullivan Drive;
- The route will continue back onto Pleasant Street and take a left onto Thirteenth Street;
- Merge on to Robeson Street;
- Left onto Highland Avenue at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, heading south;
- Right turn onto Maple Street;
- Left turn heading south onto Rock Stree;
- Right onto Bedford Street;
- Left to finish at Government Center.
Following the parade Mayor Paul Coogan will lead a ceremony lighting the Christmas tree outside Government Center.
