Municipal Officers of the City of Fall River were officially inaugurated at a ceremony held yesterday at B.M.C. Durfee High School.
Mayor Paul Coogan was sworn into a third term in office. During his inaugural address, the mayor acknowledged that one of the favorite parts of being mayor is working with and speaking to the residents of Fall River.
The mayor spent much of his address looking back on the successes of what he calls his “stable, selfless, around-the-clock leadership”. Among them was his commitment to improving streets, parks and underground infrastructure.
The mayor also used his remarks to tout the city’s work on improving public safety.
The mayor concedes that work remains on improving education across Fall River.
Economic development and improving the city’s housing stock were also a focus for the mayor.
Despite the successes, the mayor says there is room for growth.
In other business at the inauguration, the city council voted to re-elect Councilor Joe Camara to serve another year as president and Councilor Linda Pereira as vice president. Councilor Camara says he’s thankful for the support of his colleagues.
Councilor Camara also looks forward to continuing to work cohesively with Mayor Coogan.
On the school committee, former member Tom Khoury returns after a two-year hiatus and looks forward to making improvements within the city’s schools.
City Councilor Michelle Dionne was not in attendance at the inauguration ceremony. The newly inaugurated municipal officers were joined and congratulated by Governor Maura Healey and Congressman Jake Auchincloss.
