During a special meeting of the Fall River School Committee last night, Superintendent of Schools Maria Pontes recommended that the mask mandate in public schools, originally to be lifted on March 14, now be lifted beginning next Monday, March 7.
The superintendent says new CDC guidelines announced late last week, combined with new data upon students’ return from winter break, played a role in her decision.
Mask mandates will also be relaxed on school buses with the exception of SRTA buses transporting students to Durfee High School. Students and staff who test positive for COVID will still need to follow CDC guidelines in terms of wearing masks for a short period of time when returning to school following a negative test.
