The State House of Representatives yesterday approved, on a 120-36 vote, a bill that would allow undocumented individuals in the Commonwealth to obtain a driver’s license.
Fall River State Representative Alan Silvia had been an opponent to such a bill in the past but voted in favor of this version citing support from local law enforcement and provisions that will improve public safety.
Fall River Representatives Carole Fiola and Paul Schmid also voted in favor of the bill.
The bill will not automatically register undocumented individuals to vote. The bill now heads for a vote in the senate.
