The City of Fall River’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division has received a grant through Bristol Elder Services to provide home and health assessment checks for city residents who are disabled or aged 65 and older.
The Town of Westport is also collaborating on the program called “Fall River Westport CARES”. Fall River Fire Department EMS Lieutenant Nicholas Silva says the program, which is free of charge, provides residents with information and help they might not otherwise seek.
Residents or loved ones can contact Fall River EMS at 508-324-2744 to schedule the home safety check visit, which lasts a little over an hour. When EMS personnel arrive, they begin with an inspection of the resident’s home.
Residents will also undergo a basic health screening. Lt. Silva says if possible, trusted family members or friends should be on hand for the wellness check.
Sandra Frechette of Bristol Elder Services says her agency is proud to support the home safety checks and connect residents with other services to allow them to continue to live independent lives.
