Now that Fall River’s Preliminary Election is over, the candidates for mayor are shifting focus to their one-on-one face-off in November.
In the unofficial results from the election, incumbent Mayor Paul Coogan received, 4,285 votes, approximately 60 percent of those who cast ballots. Addressing supporters last night the mayor credited his success at the polls on his focus on continuing to work in the best interest of the residents of Fall River.
Former mayor and district attorney Sam Sutter finished second in the balloting, garnering 2,516 votes, 35 percent of the ballots cast. In thanking his supporters last night, Mr. Sutter looked forward to a better turnout in November and criticized Mayor Coogan for lapses in leadership.
Challenger Michael Vandal fell short of advancing to the November election, finishing third with 326 votes.
