Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker visited Durfee High School yesterday to hear directly from students about their experience with taking college courses while still in high school.
Durfee is one of only 50 high schools across the Commonwealth, and the only one on the SouthCoast, to take part in the early college program where high school students can earn college credit by simultaneously taking classes at Bristol Community College or Bridgewater State University. Durfee senior Carlos Marcano says he decided to join the program to get a jump to his college career. He says when he graduates from Durfee he will have amassed a full semester of credits as he heads to Bridgewater State University.
Governor Baker says the free early college program is a success and he plans to invest more money into it to entice other high schools to offer the benefits to its students.
