Even though nomination papers to run in this year’s city election will not be available for another month, one candidate has announced he will seek a second run at earning a spot on the school committee.
Collin Dias finished 8th in the race for school committee in 2021, approximately 600 votes short of election. He also ran for city council in 2019. Even though he is only 22 years old, Mr. Dias feels he has gained valuable experience to succeed this year.
Mr. Dias says he’s concerned that the school district has been the beneficiary of an increase in state and local aid without any increase in student performance. He is also concerned about what he feels is an increase in the instances of bullying across the district.
Mr. Dias says he is looking forward to building upon the work being done in support of teachers.
Just as importantly, Mr. Dias feels the school district should do a better job of promoting parental involvement.
