In the face of inciteful protests by neo-Nazi and antigay groups, the Fall River Pride Committee is moving forward with its next drag story time reading this Saturday at the Fall River Public Library.
Pride committee member Sean Connell says for over a year the monthly story time events had gone off without incident. In November, a group representing the neo-fascist Proud Boys spewed antisemitic and anti-queer slurs at participants. The neo-Nazi group NSC-131 joined the protests last month and verbally and physically intimidated attendees.
Since the December reading the library and local businesses nearby expressed concern about altercations at future story times.
Connell says the group is moving forward with its next reading this Saturday, January 14 at 10:30 am and expects there to be a police presence in the event of another protest.
Prior to the reading, at 9:00 am, organizers are holding a rally in support of diversity and inclusion within Fall River. The goal is not to provoke but educate.
