Former State Senator and Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Ben Downing toured the state earlier this month to promote his plans to expand public transportation and making it more affordable.
During a stop in Fall River, Downing said a robust and reliable regional transportation structure should be a priority for Massachusetts.
Downing says his plan would give the regional transit authorities, like the Southeastern Regional Transit Authority (SRTA) that operates in Fall River, more autonomy to make decisions in the best interest of their riders. He says making transit fares free or low cost will require increased investment from the state.
