The Creative Arts Network (CAN) held its annual meeting last week at Heritage State Park, focusing on the impact it has made on arts and culture in Fall River over its eight-year history.
CAN began as an offshoot of the successful AHA! creative community in New Bedford. It formed into CAN five years ago, Co-founder Sandy Dennis says the organization has made a positive cultural impact in expanding opportunities for the arts in Fall River.
The pandemic limited the amount of in-person events for CAN. In response, they focused on other projects and adapted to the circumstances.
Dennis says CAN continues to play a role in shaping the policy structure of arts in Fall River.
The celebration around CAN’s annual meeting was organized in conjunction with students studying hospitality and event planning at Bristol Community College. Program coordinator E. Jon Bjornson says Bristol has been partnering with CAN for three years providing students with practical experience in planning and executing events.
Bristol Student Amy Melody says the expertise she has learned working with CAN has allowed her to open her own business.
