Fall River City Councilor Michelle Dionne came into her first year in office with no pre-conceived notions as to how to serve the people of the city. She soon found that effecting change requires patience.
Councilor Dionne says having attended many council meetings as a resident should have prepared her to serve. She soon found out that was not the case.
Councilor Dionne says she and other councilors have had a constructive working relationship with Mayor Paul Coogan.
One of her top issues since taking office has been helping the city pay for the increased cost in the disposal of trash and recyclables.
Councilor Dionne says holding meetings remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions has impacted the spontaneity of in-person debate and has had a negative impact on residents’ ability to provide citizen input.
Looking forward to 2021 Councilor Dionne hopes the city can find the financial resources for FY 2022 to focus on projects such as the revitalization of the waterfront, She says the recent sale of the former police station and plans to sell the Bank Street Armory are positive signs.
As the city continues to deal with the impacts of CPOVID-19 Councilor Dionne feels the power of recovery remains with its people.
