The Fall River City Council Committee on Ordinances and Legislation this week heard from school committee member Kevin Aguiar on his proposal to raise the pay of school committee members to that of the council.
Mr. Aguiar said school committee members have not received a pay increase since 2002.
The ordinance committee voted unanimously to bring the school committee pay on par with that of the city council. It also proposed overturning a freeze from 2010 that eliminated cost of living increases for the mayor, city council and school committee.
If approved by the full city council the pay increase would not take effect until the new school committee is inaugurated early next year.
