The United Way of Greater Fall River joined Mayor Paul Coogan today in announcing the first two winners of the Youth Vax Giveaway.
The Youth Vax Givaway is an incentive to get those 12-24 in Fall River vaccinated against COVID-19. Anyone 12-24 who have received the vaccine can register for the giveaway at the city’s vaccine website, frvax.com. Prizes will be awarded each week during the month of October. 62 entries were eligible for this week’s drawing.
Mira Le, from BMC Durfee High School and Montana Giannotti from Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School, are this week’s winners of a Nintendo Switch.
The City of Fall River is sponsoring its second week of COVID-19 vaccination clinics in city schools next week:
- Tuesday, October 5, 2:00pm – 5:00pm at Morton Middle School
- Wednesday, October 6, 1:00pm – 4:00pm at Kuss Middle School
- Thursday, October 7, 1:00pm – 4:00pm at Morton Middle School
Anyone seeking to get the vaccine can do so at any of the clinics. Second doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be offered at the same sites in three weeks. Fall River lags behind the rest of the state in the number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 and the neighborhood clinics and giveaways are a way to entice residents to get the vaccine.
Over the past week, the city saw 253 new cases of COVID-19 with 49 students in city schools reported as positive. 58% of city residents have taken at least one dose of the vaccine with 53% fully vaccinated.
