Twenty-two teens will spend the rest of this week and next learning the finer points of law enforcement at the Fall River Police Department’s Teen Police Academy at Durfee High School.
Sergeant Platt says all the students come into the experience with some interest in public safety and serving the community, including cadets Yesmeli Gomes and Jason Chaves
Sergeant Platt says cadets often leave the academy with a different view of police work than when they started.
Ms. Gomes says she comes into the academy with an open mind about the role officers play within the community.
For Mr. Chaves, he is looking to continue the family tradition of working in law enforcement.
