Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Fall River have risen over the last two weeks, resulting in the city being tabbed as a high-risk community by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
The designation as a “red-level” community means the city has a positive COVID response rate of over 8 cases per 100,000 residents over the last 14 days. In the latest report released by the state, Fall River’s rate sits at 8.5, up from 7.3 a week ago. According to the state the city had 144 confirmed positive cases over the past two weeks. Mayor Paul Coogan says the city continues to monitor the numbers for any areas of concern.
Also this week the city announced that there were three positive covid cases spread out at Morton Middle and Durfee High School. Mayor Coogan says because of the mix of students and staff, pinpointing cases within schools can be a challenge.
The Mayor went on to say that he does not foresee any action being taken unless the city remains in the “red-level” of risk for at least three consecutive weeks.
