The City of Fall River has finalized the purchase of property on Blossom Road that it hopes will eventually serve as a discovery center for the Southeastern Massachusetts Bioreserve.
Discussions to purchase the former Adirondack Farm have been ongoing for many years and a combination of state funds and other grants made the final sale possible. Mayor Paul Coogan says the discovery center will provide economic and wellness benefits to city residents.
City Forester Michael Labassierre says work on the discovery center will take time but should result in it being a central starting point for those looking to enjoy the open space at the bioreserve.
Approximately 50 percent of the city’s land mass is made up of the protected open space land within the bioreserve.
