Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan and local health officials are reminding city residents of the importance of COVID-19 testing and preparing for the expansion of receiving the COVID vaccine.
Speaking today at the new “Stop the Spread” free COVID testing site at Bristol Community College, Mayor Coogan said even though focus on the pandemic, in many cases, has shifted toward receiving the vaccine, testing remains one of the best defenses in curbing the number of COVID infections.
The city announced that Bristol will expand its role in hosting community vaccinations, based on the phased distribution plan outlined by the state. Vaccinations will also be available at CVS Pharmacy on President Avenue and Walgreens on Plymouth Avenue. Department of Health Director Tess Curran said although people are anxious to receive the vaccine, they must follow protocols established by the state.
Ms. Curran said to date the city has vaccinated 297 individuals, primarily city first responders and those in congregate care facilities. She is hopeful that upwards of 300 vaccinations a day will occur soon, based on protocols and vaccine supply.
Mayor Coogan said there are signs of progress. as the city continues to deal with the pandemic.
