Election officials in Fall River are getting everything in order to prepare for the anticipated increase in voter interest in the November 3rd federal and state election.
Election Commission Chairwoman Kelly Souza-Young says the city has received over 13,000 requests for mail and absentee ballots for the election, which is over 25% of the approximately 50,000 residents eligible to vote. She says her office has followed a structured process to ensure most of the ballots are in voters’ hands by the end of this week.
Voters can still request a mail ballot through 5pm on October 28. Voters can return ballots via mail or at a drop-off box located at Government Center. Ms. Souza-Young says the mail ballots can be processed as early as nine days prior to election day.
Ms. Souza-Young says to handle the increased caseload her office has secured a grant of over $50,000 financed by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to help cities and towns meet the demands of financing elections during COVID-19. She is using the funds to pay for more workers and supplies.
